A new thong
Like most of us, I like to spend my summer months (outside of work) in my thongs flip-flops. Sure at work I'm all business, but as soon as I get home I slip into something more comfortable. My glorious black flip-flops. (When did they stop being thongs? That's what we always called them when I was a kid. All of a sudden they became flip-flops. Wha?!)
As long as I can remember I've worn the cheapy Old Navy kind. They come in a millions colors, so I always buy a million colors. Plus they are like $1.50, so you can't go wrong.
Or so I thought.
Recently I've been wearing my new favorite pair of gold flip-flops. And recently I've noticed my calves killing me when I walk up the hills in the city.
After reading the Advice Smackdown flip-flop cage match I realized I needed to upgrade. For my feet. For my calves. For my health.
While at the outlet mall this week I decided I needed to begin my quest for new flip-flops. I would need them for my upcoming trips to Chicago, Washington D.C. and New York where I would be walking a lot.
I tried on many a pair of flip-flops. Each time I slipped my feet into a new pair I would smile bigger. They felt good on my feet and on my body. The only thing that didn't feel good was the price. When you are used to paying less then $5 for flip-flops even $25.00 feels like a lot to pay. Even if they do feel like you are walking on a cloud.
I decided the best pair was the ones I tried on first at the Eddie Bauer store. I was thrilled to purchase them. I was even more thrilled when I realized they were on sale (which made them less then $20.00)!
I've worn them everyday since Monday. I wear them into work and then change into my regularly scheduled heels upon arrival. Except for yesterday when I kept them on for the entire day. With my work slacks.
It felt good.
I didn't even care what it looked like.

We still call them thongs in Australia.
This is one other reason why u should more here. :P
And also that other reason ... ME!
I've been studying ALL night for my Intellectual Property Law exam. ALL NIGHT. yuck.
I am hoping that I get to meet you when you travel to Chicagoland this summer. I ,too, am always on the look out for the perfect "flip-flops." I found 2 pairs this year that are mighty comfortable and cheap.
Mrs. Squirrel will tell you that I am always on the hunt for a bargain and will travel to places that she sometimes finds questionable. :)
Kmart-- $9.99 on sale for $6.49 black and soft with a wide foot band as not to cause chafing
Walmart-- $6.50 ish. Many fashion colors - I chose purple! Very similar to the Kmart ones. Better arch support.
I also just picked up a pair of Aerosoles wedge sandles (I know what you are thinking- but they are not dumpy! They are cute!) at DSW for $29.99 and they are like walking on a cloud. Seriously. They are T-strap and cute and I would totally wear them to work if I was allowed to.
Wait, I get to meet Smitty?! Hooray.
I love Aerosoles. I don't think they are dumpy. Don't worry.
And we just got a DSW here in Washington. It's in the 'burbs! GAG. But I'm making the trek this weekend. I hope.
I will return and report.
I have one pair of Old Navy flip flops, and I heart them! The others are Roxy. I heart them too, because I heart anything Roxy. I have everything Roxy. I think I need to blog about my Roxy obsession....
All of my flip-flops are the cheapos and I haven't had problems with them yet! hopefully I won't.
I like the ones you got from Eddie Bauer, they do look super comfy!
Those flip flops do look comfy. Who's to judge, that's what I say.
My current faves: Chaco and foamy Tevas (both totally on sale).
First: I've always said tongs or flip-flops, but mostly flip-flops. Never thongs because dude, that's underwear.
Also, I'm thinking I need those Eddie Bauer ones. You know, for the baby. They look mucho comfortable.
I concur about the Tevas. I just got a pair for my road trip, and I wore them down! They ended up being the only shoes I wore for 10 days. They mold themselves to your feet, isabel! It's glorious! And they're informational- I never before knew that I had an incrediby pigeontoed right foot. God bless Tevas, and Famous Footwear for having them on sale!
I love that you are joining me in wearing flip flops to work. I did the exact same thing today.
I love my black old navy flip flops, but yes they are hard on the feet.
I saw these flip flops at Bath & Body Works that are supposedly a work out in a flip flop. It puzzles me. They are like $35 a pair... but if they give you a work out just by wearing them? I might be inclined to buy them.
I'm a midwestern girl and we have always called them flip-flops...so I guess it just like soda vs. pop! :) My favs are still my Merrell's that I got at DSW for $15.00 (normally $65.00)...been looking for another pair ever since! I am considering Chacos that kept being mentioned in the smackdown comments!
